After distinguished war service, various escapades in South America and farming in Devon, Ross Salmon joined the BBC as a presenter in the 1960s and later as a sports commentator. His obituary is here.
Ross Salmon’s sporting contacts led to his forming the charitable all-star team, The International Cricket Crusaders, for whom he recruited greats such as Sir Garfield Sobers and Fred Trueman to take part in tours of the West Country.
The International Crusaders played Plymouth Cricket Club at Peverell Park in 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970 and 1971. This picture shows the home team in 1968 and a large crowd of spectators too.
